Time Management
It is a common fallacy that time management is for managers or executives only. Time management is equally pertinent for students also. It is believed that for every hour of lecture in the classroom, one has to put in 2 to 3 hours of self study. Also, with the various distractions of the campus life and expectations to excel in studies and co-curricular activities, it is all the more important for students to be aware of the time organizational systems. Also, many a time, a student has to take a part time job to support him/her through the studies. Therefore, student organizing becomes all the more imperative.
A student can learn to manage time better by following a number of techniques. Most of these techniques will apply to anyone, student or non-student. Yet some of the techniques are of special importance for the students. Some of the time management techniques for staying organized as a student are as follows:
Invest in a planner.
The planner does not have to be a leather bound, flashy number. A simple one available at nearest store will be just fine.
List all your activities.
List all your activities that you have planned over the semester. Keep reconciling it with a to-do list that you prepare on a daily basis.
Prioritize.
In the to-do list hat you have prepared, priories the tasks as A, B and C, with A being the category for the most important tasks, and C for the least important.
Stay Focused.
You can make a perfect plan, list all you activities in perfect order and priority, yet all this will come to naught if you fail to follow the plan into action. Therefore, stay focused on your primary task, which is to study and get good grades.
Mind your Syllabus.
Your syllabus is probably the most important tool to help you manage your time better. Use it to go through the chapters before attending the lectures. Also, note down the test dates and important submission dates.
Revision/Review.
Rather than last minute cramming before the exams, it is better that you revise the chapters and lessons along with the lectures in
the class room. This will help in better retentions, and any doubts can be clarified with the professor beforehand.
